I have tried all sorts of different planners and I often switch things up from year to year since our needs are always changing. Last year, I decided to go the digital route, but I found that I was less organized than usual with our daily schedules and planning. I would go into the calendar to input dates, but it wasn't my cup of tea when it came time to do my weekly planning and look at my Day at a Glance.
What can I say, I simply like to write things down, carry my planner, and be able to open it up and jot goals and notes and meal plans all on one happy and colorful place.
So, I created a 2013 planner pages printable, which you can find in my Etsy shop here.
Here is a look at what the printable includes:
![]() | |
| Personalized Planner Cover |
![]() |
| Special Dates Page |
![]() |
| 12 Dated Monthly Calendar Pages |
![]() |
| 52 Weeks of Daily Dated Pages |
![]() |
| Notes Page |
![]() |
| Weekly Meal Planning & Grocery Shopping Page |
The pages can be printed {I have them set up to easily print front/back duplex style}, and used within a binder, professional bound {like I did with my blog planner}, or used with the Discbound system from Staples, which is what I ultimately went with.
Ready to see her all up close and personal?
As I mentioned, I decided to ultimately go with the Discbound system {found at Staples}. You all actually introduced it to me and thought it would be something that would tickle my fancy, and boy have I been smitten since! So THANK YOU! I love that I can easily mix and match items to insert, reuse everything from year to year and just swap out pages that need updating, and basically customize it to fit my personal needs! LOVE doesn't begin to describe it. New baseball schedule? Just punch it and pop it in! Mess up a page? Just reprint and pop it in! Special notes and reminders? Punch and pop. Fantastic. And I also adore that it makes it smaller than the typical binder.
Inside the cover makes me grin ear to ear every time I open it!
On the left, I have color coded stickers, a sticky note pad for quick note jotting, calendar stickers, page tabs and some of my business cards.
And on the right is my coversheet, which I laminated like a pro....
Inside, there is a clear pocket to hold things such as important notes, birthday cards, invites, etc... along with our Special Dates printable.
I used sticky tabs combined with my label maker to divide each month.
And decided I would try the color coding method, so each family gets a special color inside.
Behind the monthly calendar, is where the magic really happens. I printed everything two sided to save paper and for ease of use. So, the next pages are a side by side view of the entire week:
Each week is pre-labeled with the specific dates.
And since we are big meal planners, I wanted to jot down the meals for the week inside each day.
On the other side, I included a spot to set some goals/to dos for the week.
And in the back, I printed off a bunch of blank note pages since I am always thinking up things that need a place to live.
Oooh la la lovely right? Keeping a family of five on the same page can be a challenge, so here is hoping this planner will act as our glue this year. And all of the colors keep me excited to clutch it day after day!
Cheers to the New Year and happy planning!!
Personalized blog planner printable pages can be found in my Etsy shop here.
Updated Planner FAQ's:
- The paper I printed on is standard letter size, 8 1/2" x 11. 98 bright & 32 lb from Staples.
- When printing, be sure to print a few test pages ahead of time to be sure to understand your printer setup. Unfortunately, every printer is different and has different settings and options. What worked best for ours was to select "double sided printing" and to be sure that the "Auto Rotate Pages" box was selected since some are portrait and others are landscape. Our printer settings allows us to print different page sizes, but it requires us to feed the paper of that size in manually.
- The pages are designed to be printed on standard letter 8.5" x 11" paper. The files are in PDF format which open best with Adobe Reader which can be downloaded for free here.
- Here is the link to the binder cover I purchased {I removed the sheets from the inside and replaced with my own}.
- Here is the link to the discbound paper punch I purchased and used {yes, it is compatible with both the Martha Stewart discbound system and the Staples Arc system}. A reader mentioned that a less expensive option that also worked for her was this Levenger punch.
- Here is the link to the notepad in the front cover.
- Here is the link to the sticky tabs.
- Here is the link to the calendar stickers.
- I use Papermate Flair Porous Ultra Fine Point pens and I love them. Great writing and no bleeding.
- Since I plan on reusing the cover year after year, the title was added with vinyl I cut with my Silhouette {the vinyl can be removed}.
- The planner is 129 pages of prefilled dates/calendars. Plus a Special Dates, Notes & Meal Planning doc. I printed double sided so I used half that in paper.
- Staples does offer a printing service and binding service {or you can print at home and just have staples bind it for you}. You would have to contact your local Staples to confirm their services as they may vary from store to store.
- Here is the link to my label maker.
- In the front cover, the stickers slide into the pouch and the notepad was originally stuck there, but didn't stay so I may try a command strip to hold it better.
- I am not affiliated with Staples in any way to share their services/items, I went there based on your recommendations and my love for the Martha Stewart line.

Oh my goodness- I love this!
ReplyDeleteI am a big planner person- and I recently started a household organization binder similar to what you have- thanks so much for the inspiration!
Ugh, this looks amazing! If it wasn't for the fact that I already bought a Moleskine planner and have already started getting it ready, I would be all over this!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job!
Wow. It is obvious that you put A LOT of time into putting this together. It truly looks amazing and uber professional. Just.wow.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. What program do you use to create these? Stunning work
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! I used a combo of Microsoft Publisher and Excel.
Deletexo,
Jen
Love your planner it is amazing!!!! I am sure you have answered this before, but where do you print your pages? Do you use a home printer? The color is so vivid! Your talent is amazing:)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI print my pages at home {for these specifically since they are double sided I just use a heavier weighted paper}. I have an HP Laser printer that I love, but I also use it frequently for blog things.
xoxo!
Jen
Hi Jen,
DeleteLove, love, love all of your stuff!!! I am wondering if you spend a fortune in ink for your printer? We have a laser printer but my husband thinks we would have to buy lots of colored ink to print everything.
Hi Jen,
DeleteCan you tell me what HP Laser printer you have? The model number? I am in the market for a new laser printer and love the quality of yours. :) Thanks!
Hi Michele & Christina,
DeleteJen and I both have the same HP printer. Jen was lucky enough to find her printer on black Friday a few years back and got a great deal!
It’s the HP LaserJet CP1525nw color and so far we both love it! You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044XSNHG/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=iheaorga-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0044XSNHG
♥Emily
Thank you Emily!!! So helpful!
DeleteOkay, silly question - but did you buy a special punch to prep all your pages? I'd love to get the large version of this to house my household binder materials I bought from you a few weeks ago... but I can't find out how to punch my own pages and insert them in the Discbound! :)
ReplyDeleteYour stuff is just BEAUTIFUL.
Not a silly question at all.
DeleteStaples sells a punch since they offer the Discbound system for their Arc and Martha Stewart items.
I broke down and invested in the punch since I plan on using the system frequently down the line and even transferring some of our other systems over. However, it is a bit pricey, it may be worth checking with Staples to see if they can punch the docs for you?
xo!
Jen
I started trying to use these notebooks when they first launched them but found I was limited by their forms...I had no idea you could buy a punch now to put your own pages in! I don't like it for my planner but I do like them for project notebooks so I'll be checking this out, thanks! Oh, and the pages are beautiful as always...it's great seeing a few more vertical pages, I don't like working with the horizontal layouts.
DeleteCould you provide a link or item information for the punch you purchased. This is exactly what I have been looking for with customizing a planner. Thanks!
DeleteStaples doesn't carry the ARC or the Martha Stewart lines in Canada. *Cry*
DeleteLove it! How do you punch the holes that makes the sheets removable? Can you buy the hole punch or do you have to take your sheets to Staples?
ReplyDeleteThank you Carter!

It's amazing! I want it myself<3
ReplyDeleteI would love to understand the discbound system better. I looked at Staples.com and I don't completely understand it. Can you poiunt me on where to read more about it. Also, where did you get the calendar stickers?
ReplyDeleteSure Rebecca!
DeleteHere is a link: http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/arc/index.html
And here: http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/products/martha-stewart-home-office/discbound_notebooks.html
I found the calendar stickers at the Container Store: http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10032263&N=&Ns=p_sort_default|0&Ntt=calendar+stickers
xo!
Jen
This is so amazing. What do you use to punch the holes? I only have a 3-hole punch. Also, do you happen to have a version that starts the week on Monday instead of Sunday?
ReplyDeleteI would be interested in that as well--Europeans!
DeleteHi Heather!
DeleteI purchased a specific punch for the discbound system, however, you could use these pages with a three hole punch and binder?
At this time, I don't have the planner designed in other formats, but I am jotting down all sorts of notes for the future.
xoxo!
Jen
I also created a planner a few years and sell them on my website at www.wellkeptlife.com. It is spiral bound so you can't really take pages out or add others but you might want to take a look. The weekly pages begin on Monday.
DeleteI by no means want to take away from your planner, Jen. your work is always so bright, cheerful, and lovely. Keep it up! I featured your blog on my favorites page on my blog. Your blog has given me so much to think about! Love the inspiration I find here...
Lovely, lovely design! You are so talented. Who wouldn't want to use this planner? Would be great to give someone as a gift!
ReplyDeleteOn a technical note, your photos are always flawlessly perfect - do you just have good light or is it a particular setting on your camera that helps get such professional images? Thanks!
Thank you Antonia!
DeleteI always shoot in natural light and use a tripod. Then, I use an editing program to adjust lighting when necessary as well.
xoxo!
Jen
Major planner envy going on right now!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Jen this is awesome!! Looking forward to getting all the pieces for this!
ReplyDeleteWhat size is your planner? It is lovely! I have been debating what I want to do and think yours is great! Browsing your Esty shop now! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! The planner is printed on standard 8.5" x 11" paper.
Deletexo!
Jen
OMG! I was talking to my friend last night and mentioned your blog. showing her my home binder and wishing that you made a planner - you answered my prayers! It looks as if you have the planner printed for a 8x11 1/2 binder and you mentioned that the pages are in PDFs so you can change the size. I have been looking for a planner that will give me a two page calendar in a 5x7 or 9x7 binder - would your pages allow me to have a 2 page calendar? I sure hope so!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe size should be able to be changed based on your printer settings, in mine, I can pick the paper size and scale to print accordingly.
The monthly calendar is designed to fit onto one page, the weekly/daily planner pages fit on two.
Hope that helps!
xo,
Jen
Have you ever considered selling them assembled? I would LOVE to have one but it would probably take me forever to assemble and I, and likely others, would be willing to pay for it completely assembled. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing!
I would too considering this is going to cost a fortune (for a planner) to have printed. You can print it on a basic printer, but it won't look the same. Then add in binding. I bet that you'd spend over $40 on this!
DeleteI was wondering the same thing. I'd be interested in knowing how much it would be to buy one already printed and assembled, or if that would even be an option.
DeleteAwww, thanks gals!
DeleteFirst, I thought assembly would be super time consuming, but it was surprisingly quick. The most time consuming portion was creating the labeled tabs, however, they do sell tabs that could potentially make that easier/faster. {like this: http://www.shoplet.com/Cardinal-OneStep-Monthly-Index-System/CRD60318CB/spdv?ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=CRD60318CB}
I could possibly sell the planner printed with a laminated cover/back and spiral bound, however I am not located close enough to a Staples to purchase bulk supplies of accessories. I will absolutely consider ways to do this in the future though. :)
xo!
Jen
I have the large arc planner and the smaller arc planner. I decided to use to the larger one for everything since I had more space to write. Plus I have so much going on between school, family, and life. LOL Have a wonderful 2013!
ReplyDeleteI love this Jen! I would love to have my meal planning in the same spot as my calendar!! Going to check out your printables on Etsy!! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! Had i not *just* ordered my 2013 planner I would jump on this!! You did a GREAT job designing this, Jen!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this! How did you put something on the cover of the binder? I see a marker beside it but also washi tape. Curious how you did that. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy!
DeleteI actually just used vinyl that I cut with the Silhouette, so that I can remove it and update it year after year :)
xo,
Jen
I have admired your organizational skills for a few months now after stumbling upon it through Pintrest. It has inspired me to get my life and home organized myself. I love the idea of this planner. Do you think your planner and home management binders would be useful for a single parent of one child?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I would definitely take a moment to browse through the different pages offered and see how you could find benefits of using them based on your personal needs. They are designed for people with no kids or lots of kids :)
Deletexo,
Jen
I love it. Can you tell me what font you use for your label maker?
ReplyDeleteHi Emily!
DeleteI use the Epson LabelWorks LW-400, the font is called Mincho.
xo!
Jen
How do I get mine to look like yours once printed out? Did you use a professional service or do it at home? Thanks
ReplyDeleteI printed it at home, I just used a heavier weighted professional paper to avoid bleeding through since I printed front to back.
DeleteI set up the calendar/planner pages for duplex {front & back printing}, so it should be as easy as changing that setting on your printer.
The supplies were purchased from Staples and everything was assembled by me.
xo,
Jen
Good to know about heavier weighted paper. What would an example be? Sorry, I just know/buy basic printing paper. Thx : )
DeleteLove, love, love everything about this! Agree that you should sell it all assembled! It is just so adorable and practical. Question about the month tabs- you said you used sticky notes and a label maker- how? Which mind of label maker? Do you have one with different fonts? Thank you for any info! Happy new year.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteI use the Epson LabelWorks LW-400, the font is called Mincho and I always print on clear label tape.
The tabs were these from Staples: http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-NoteTabs-Assorted-Flourish/product_SS1063453

Jen
I totally geek out over this sort of thing - love it! Do you think you will ever resize to sell on etsy that would fit in Filofaxes? Would love these as inserts in my A5 :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... I will have to look into that. If you can find blank paper you may be able to update your printer settings to print documents that size, but I would definitely play around with that before committing to purchasing anything.
Deletexo!
Jen
I really love the new planner! I will definitely be ordering one soon from your Etsy store. One question.....How did you get the date on the front of the binder?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi Robin!
DeleteI actually just used vinyl that I cut with the Silhouette, so that I can remove it and update it year after year :)
xo,
Jen
Oh good. I thought that was what you did but not sure. I just love my Silhouette! Thank you again. :)
DeleteBeautiful design Jen! LOVE the binder. I'm guessing everything was purchased from Staples?
ReplyDeleteGenius I tell you ... genius :)
Thank you Jennifer!
DeleteYes, I made the hike to Staples and purchased all of my supplies there. Others, I had on hand already from previous years and stuck them inside {the calendar stickers from the Container Store}.
xo!
Jen
Oh how I wish there was a Staples within 100 miles of me! I live in New Orleans and would you believe the closest Staples is on the MS/AL border.
DeleteWow! looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you showed this now, I just bougth a planner last month for the year.... I want yours for 2014!!! And as someone else mentionned, would you consider selling some already assemble? I would love that.
Keep up the good work!
I will for sure find a way to do that for 2014. My wheels are spinning.
DeleteThanks so much!
xo,
Jen
Was yours printed on 8.5 x 11 size paper for the larger Discbound planner? or for the smaller one?
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly!
DeleteYes, I just printed on standard paper size for the larger binder size.
xo!
Jen
Jen,
ReplyDeleteThat discbound system looks interesting! Do you think the punch and a notebook could be used to create a greeting card book (similar to this one: http://www.examiner.com/article/how-to-make-a-greeting-card-mini-book)?
I'm trying to find a way to save/bind all the cards my daughter is receiving in her first year as a keepsake for her later. I'd love to have a more sturdy binding like the one here if it would work!
Hi!
DeleteI did see binders of different options and sizes. And you can also purchase the discs separately in different sizes as well. Could be worth exploring?
xo,
Jen
I'm in love! This is amazing! I can't believe you made this!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more with all the ladies! And also want to put a vote in for a ready-assembled, 5 x 7 version. I know it would be a big hit and want to urge you to strongly consider it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am already thinking of ways I can make that happen. :)
Deletexo,
Jen
Hi! I love this, especially since I already own that discbound notebook. I am also wondering what kind of labelmaker you use, and what font you used for your tabs. I am totally going to buy this, I think!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarisa!

The Arc system may be just what I've been looking for to put recopies in, thanks for the links!
ReplyDeleteLooooove!
ReplyDeleteJen - this is amazing work. I would also love to see a final product put together. I would want mine to be just like yours - envy much :-). Beautiful job.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am already thinking of ways I can make that happen. :)
Deletexo,
Jen
I would also like to have one exactly likes yours but as also wondering about the size (is is purse-friendly)?
ReplyDeleteAlso, could you do a post on how you use your daily planner in coordination with your home binder to stay on top of things...I am an organizing reject but love living vicariously through your beautiful designs and organizational skills:)
Hi Jennifer!
DeleteThe size could potentially fit in a larger purse {I carry a small clutch along with a tote that it fits inside of}.
As far as the binder/planner goes, I tried to make some tweaks to use the planner daily and take with me and the binder for special events, checklists and more of a reference I can pull from as needed, while keeping it at home only.
xo!
Jen
Love this!!! I too wish I saw this before I already bought mine for the year;(. I agree, a pre assembled one for 2014 would be a huge hit;)---at least for me!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Katy! Hopefully I can make that happen! :)
Deletexo,
Jen
Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jen! You truly have a gift. I've still got a year in my Erin Condren planner (which I found through you and love) but I may be planning ahead for next year. Please make one for 2014!
ReplyDeleteJessica @ A Humble Creation
That's so awesome! Love her planners too, so you can't go wrong there :)
Deletexo,
Jen
I went to your Etsy shop right away...I really want one of these but I did not see any price or ordering info! Please help!
ReplyDeleteNancy W.
Hi Nancy!
DeleteHere is the link for you: https://www.etsy.com/listing/119228497/2013-daily-planner-pdf-printable

Jen
Same as you I have always used color coding for my sons and also a sign. A square for Hugo, a circle for Giraud and a triangle for Leonard, so easy to figure out! I love color coding. Thank you for the inspiration and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLove that you also use a sign. We are huge fans of using their birth order numbers on most everything as well. Works fab!
Deletexo,
Jen
I love your pens! What kind are they?
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie!
DeleteI am a huge fan of the Papermate Flair Porous Point Pens, Ultra Fine Point. LOVE LOVE!
xo,
Jen
This is such a great idea! I'm a pen and paper organizer, and since my idea of keeping lists and calendars tend to change often I use strong pads. Yours are so much prettier though!!
ReplyDeleteI love your 2013 planner worksheets and I want to order but before I go to your Etsy shop I want to know what size binder your ordered from Staples?
ReplyDeleteHi Christine!
DeleteThis is the binder I purchased: http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-Discbound-Notebooks-Blue-Textured-9-1/product_946035
It comes with the hard binder cover, the discs, 60 pages of note paper and the plastic pouch insert.
xo,
Jen
"I used sticky tabs combined with my label maker to divide each month."
ReplyDeleteOk, what are sticky tabs and where do I get them? I assume that your label maker was printing on CLEAR background?
The binder that your ordered from Stapels...is it this one?
http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-Discbound-Notebooks-Blue-Textured-9-1/product_946035#desc_content
I too would like to know HOW you applied the year to the front of your binder. ;)
Very good JOB!
I have already set up a Junior Arc Planner with Stapels 2013 purchased planner...but I must admit...it is not as detailed as yours.
On your 2013 Printable Planner - are you including Holidays on the Month Page and on the weekly pages?
Ok...enough questions, I know your fingers are going to be tired when you come back to all these questions! :D
Hi Kim! :)
DeleteI use the Epson LabelWorks LW-400, the font is called Mincho and I always print on clear label tape.
The tabs were these from Staples: http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-NoteTabs-Assorted-Flourish/product_SS1063453
Yes, that is the binder cover I used.
I applied the year to the front by cutting out some vinyl with my Silhouette, that way, I can change it from year to year since the vinyl is removable.
I have been trying to decide how to combine the large calendar with the daily pages to reduce redundancies, but for now, I am writing most things in both since I like to be able to quickly glance at the monthly calendar and write in more details on the daily pages.
xoxo!
Jen
This is fantastic! I can't even believe you created it yourself! It looks that perfect!!!! Im going to have to look into this for myself!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen....I absolutely love this binder. I don't have a Staples anywhere near me. Is it possible to purchase exactly what you created?
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! New reader here, and I just have to tell you how absolutely giddy this post made me! As in squealing with delight giddy! I am a total pen and paper kind of girl, and your planner is beautiful and functional...perfect! I rely on color coding as well, for towels, linens...you name it. On the family calendar, each child gets his/her own colored pen for scheduled things- that has worked really well for me.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Oh, and I have 3 adorable boys too. =)
Where did you get the stickers?? That's what I need!
ReplyDeleteHi Constance!
DeleteI found the calendar stickers at the Container Store: http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10032263&N=&Ns=p_sort_default|0&Ntt=calendar+stickers
xo!
Jen
Waaaaaaahhhhhh! Needed this a month ago, before I spent all my money and ink on another one. I like what I got because it helps me with the keeping up with the housework junk that I abhors, but I like the style of yours and that disc bound I have never seen or heard of. Saving this for next year :0(
ReplyDeleteAck, so sorry! I was in a bit of a time crunch to get it done this year, but now I have a template to work with so I can get something out much earlier next year. :)
Deletexo!
Jen
SO glad to hear you will try to come out with one again next year. I purchased this one and was hoping you would continue!
DeleteCan't wait!
DeleteI LOVE this and really need to seriously consider purchasing the printables!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post. Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteI realize that you have to make a living too, but I just feel like you don't offer your readers anything in return besides advice. Everything that we can "win" you already got for free or hugely discounted. Not to mention you make money if we buy anything through the links on your site. All I saw you do this year was offer a couple free printables, 3 free binder kits, and a 20% off discount. That just doesn't seem like much to me when we're one of the reasons you are doing so well. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like you owe me anything personally. I just think that it's tacky that you always post these things for your readers, tell them to go buy it, and then don't offer anything in return that doesn't make you money. Perhaps you could do more giveaways to show your appreciation since your readers are your main source of income? Rant over.
ReplyDeleteI never understand why people say things like this... This is her business - if she had a store front in her town people would not be upset with her for selling her items. She has an AMAZING talent -- and owes us nothing...she is creating amazing products and giving us the option of purchasing, there is no doubt she puts in hours and hours of work, why should she give it all away? And she is giving us a lot of advice, tips, and eye candy-- this is just a bonus.
DeleteHi Rhiannon!
DeleteThanks so much for the feedback and I am so very sorry you feel that way! I appreciate ya'll more than anyone could know or imagine. I never want this blog to feel "pushy" to purchase anything, ever. And I seriously wish that I could give everything away for free, but unfortunately, the time commitment away from my family it takes to create the larger kits is my income and how I provide for them. People absolutely have the choice to purchase or not, I am just sharing the planner I am going with as I get asked frequently. Whether I purchased one from a store or made my own, I am going to share it with the readers.
You can find an entire list of free printables that I have created and offer here: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/p/free-printables.html
I will plan on more flash sales and giveaways throughout the year.
xoxo!
Jen
This rant is absurd.
DeleteI LOVE your site Jen! You do an AMAZING job! I follow you for the ADVISE - not for free stuff! I never feel it is pushy and if it doesn't fit my style or budget I just don't purchase. I have GAINED SO much from you. Keep up the AMAZING work! I purchased the planner...I can only imagine how much time it took you to pull that all together. I have tried to make some of these things on my own...and I can never get them to look as good and professional as you can!
DeleteJen I appreciate that you give us ideas to help organize our lives. I have been following your blog for over a year now and find it invaluable. I do not feel you push merchandise, but rather offer solutions for us to use or make our own to suite our individual lives. I find it frustrating at times when I see a great organizational idea and cannot find where to get the items used. This helps me tremendously since time is of value for me. It also spurs ideas of other ways to use items you have found to organize your own life. Keep up the good work.
DeleteI want to add some insight into this, because the poster with an attitude doesn't seem to get that time=money. I would like to elucidate this connection in hopes that it defends the awesome work that Jen does!
DeleteI purchased Jen's household binder (which I LOVE, btw). In my etsy message to her, I asked whether she would consider a personally commissioned baby tracker, since I have several disorganized friends having babies. She immediately wrote back in a cheerful way that she doesn't have the capacity to do that at the moment and that it's on her to-do list for 2013.
After reading the website and seeing her say that she made the printables via excel, I decided to give it a try on my own. I've now developed an adorable template for a baby tracker (that I hope to submit to you, Jen, so you can see it!)to give as a gift to friends. If I could've waited for Jen to create one, I would have...but pregnancy has a very strict timeline :)
That printable book took me DAYS to develop and format. DAYS. If I were charging 10$ an hour, (I'm a Ph.D. candidate and my consulting time is easily worth 25$ per hour), this thing would easily be 200.00, if not more. There's alot of blood, sweat, and tears that go into those things. Jen's shop takes the guesswork out of it, BUT if you look around on her site she actually teaches you how to make the printables yourself--if you're willing to put the time in there.
So the moral of the story is that Jen is giving you the best of both worlds. The convenience if you value time and the TOOLS if you value money. If she were only trying to "make a buck" she wouldn't be "teaching you how to fish," she would only be selling you the fish!
Your blog has changed my life for the better--I'm now passionate about organizing my life because you have shown that it can be beautiful and FUN.
Haters gonna hate...
I have to agree with you, Emily. I am an editor and am skilled at putting these types of documents together. It takes A LOT of time. I considered creating one of my own instead, but I just don't have the time or energy to put into developing all of the details and design elements. Jen's fits my needs perfectly!
DeleteLove this!! Would you consider making these to sell?
ReplyDeleteI would love this as well. So much easier. I have a feeling if some bigwigs at Staples get a wind of this, she will have her own line! ;)
DeleteHoping I can add a physical planner to the shop soon. Crossing my fingers I can make something happen.
DeleteThanks for the support!
xo,
Jen
Seriously! You are the next Erin Condren!! LOVE these planners and would purchase one completely assembled in a heart beat.
DeleteOh! And I also just need a "paper" one. Can't get used to an online one. And I would also like to know about the label maker because that font on the labels is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi there!
DeleteI use the Epson LabelWorks LW-400, the font is called Mincho.
xo,
Jen
LOVE THIS!!! I would also be interested in a step by step/ how to guide to put it all together to make it look just like yours! Would we get that when we purchase from etsy? Just don't want to spend the $25 and not know how so put it together like yours!
ReplyDeleteHi Lacey!
DeleteI would love to help you get it put together.
It should be quite simple. I would send each document over is separate PDF files that you could print endlessly:
* Coversheet
* Special Dates page
* Monthly Calendar & Daily Planner pages, set up to be printed from & back {duplex printing}
* Notes page
* Weekly Meal Planning page which you could either add to your planner or print & use weekly {I keep a stack in my pantry}
If you need help, I am always available via Etsy, so just pop over a conversation with any additional questions you have. :)
xo,
Jen
I think I have all the supplies that I would need written down, but wanting to price check it all to see what my end cost will be:
Deletebinder
Tabs
Labels
Paper (do you know what your exact type of paper was?)
Thanks so much for the help
Lacey
Have you ever considered selling them assembled? I would LOVE to have one but it would probably take me forever to assemble and I, and likely others, would be willing to pay for it completely assembled.
ReplyDeleteHi Rosanny!
DeleteI also thought assembly would be super time consuming, but it was surprisingly quick. The most time consuming portion was creating the labeled tabs, however, they do sell tabs that could potentially make that easier/faster. {like this: http://www.shoplet.com/Cardinal-OneStep-Monthly-Index-System/CRD60318CB/spdv?ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=CRD60318CB}
I could possibly sell the planner printed with a laminated cover/back and spiral bound, however I am not located close enough to a Staples to purchase bulk supplies of accessories. I will absolutely consider ways to do this in the future though. :)
xo!
Jen
Love your planner!!! So fresh and pretty!
ReplyDeleteSooo pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI too would love to be able to buy an already assembled one and hope that it's something you would consider.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to try and figure out a way to make that happen. Thanks so much!
Deletexo,
Jen
I LOVE this... but Im worried how much its going to cost to put together. How many pages is it total I would be printing?!
ReplyDeleteHi Sophie!
DeleteThe monthly calendar/planner pages are 129 pages, plus the cover, the special dates and any notes pages. The pages are designed for front & back printing, so it would be half that.
xoxo!
Jen
Love, love, love this! I am always in awe of your organizing talents, Jen... Organizing has always been a struggle for me, but I'm getting better at it as time goes on. I just finished making my own yearly calendar, and have found a system that really works for me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I loved seeing your write-up in the Spring issue of Storage by BH&G... You are always an inspiration to those of us who are "organizing-challenged"!

Jen, WOW are these nice. I'm sure you are over whelmed with emails tonight. Anyway you could sell the pages separately? I need a cover sheet and notes sheet for my work weight loss challenge. As a captain I'm creating a weight loss tracker for them. Your pages are the best I've ever seen =) Jnamm19@gmail.com if you have time. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI really really want the one all bound together. Is it possible you could make it available for purchase?? I absolutely love love LOVE it!! Btw, I also featured it on my blog (inspired by you). But let's be honest my blog will never be as awesome as yours!

I have a Circa hole punch from Levenger, do you know it's compatible with the disc bound system from Staples?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful planner! Do you also use a smartphone or iPhone as a way to keep track of things in your calendar and to-do lists? I have always debated about just doing the electronic method of organizing my calendar and to-do lists, but wanting the ease of just having a phone to carry around that info at all times instead of also carrying a planner. Have you found a good way of marrying the two?
ReplyDeleteWow would you mind sharing which hp laser printer you have, and is it good for printing pics. I have the hardest time finding the right printer.
ReplyDeleteHello!
DeleteJen and I both have the same HP printer. Jen was lucky enough to find her printer on black Friday a few years back and got a great deal!
It’s the HP LaserJet CP1525nw color and so far we both love it! You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044XSNHG/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=iheaorga-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0044XSNHG

where did you get those fabulous sticky tabs? i love how they are cut so whimsy. did you do this on your own?
ReplyDeleteHello!
DeleteThe tabs were these from Staples: http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-NoteTabs-Assorted-Flourish/product_SS1063453

Wow! This is beautiful. It puts my planner to shame. I so appreciate your offering this. I need to be better about following through with using a system. Not sure why it is so hard for me. You are so talented, Jen. Well done.
ReplyDeleteJen!
ReplyDeleteI am drooling all over my iPad right now! I just love what you've created! And I think it's so kind that you are so willing to answer everyone's questions! They have answered all of mine. I hope to pick up a journal soon!
Happy new year!
Can I ask u what type of pens do u used?? I love the way it looks n the different colors

I would LOVE to know this too!
DeleteHello Felicia,
DeleteThe pens are Papermate Flair Porous Point Pens, Ultra Fine Point. LOVE LOVE!
♥Emily
Very nice! Next year, I'll try to make my own planner... For now, I'll stick with a basic one... Maybe I'll soup it out! :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! My husband got me an Erin Condren planner for Christmas but if he didn't, I'd be all over this! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! Looks so great and organized.
ReplyDeleteDivine! Where do you get the awesome chubby teardrop stickers?
ReplyDeleteCheck out Staples :)

I love it I wish you would make my planner for me I don't think I'm ambitious enough to print it and do it all myself
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect! :D
ReplyDeleteLove! Love! Love! Great Work! As a New Year's resolution, I have decided to work on becoming debt free. So I was wondering if you have considered creating a financial planning print outs that could be used along side of your new planner?
ReplyDeleteOh, this is wonderful. I've bookmarked it and have also checked and we do have the supplies, including puncher, from Staples in UK. I do loads of note-making and writing drafts and also little sketches in pads and was wanting to try to keep them in one pad (or maybe one for home/work and one for out and about) this year, but have struggled to find something that gives me what I really want. So, I think will definitely go for a completely tailor-made version using these binders. I'll probably have a calendar section and some specific weekly to dos and then lots of double-sided blank pages - lined on one side and blank on the other, which is what I prefer. Wish our colour laser printer still worked, though, as inkjet is not waterproof. I might look into getting a friend to print black and white pages and then I could pretty them up by hand!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this brilliant idea and sharing it. I am in awe of your organisational skills and ideas!
I would totally buy this but I am in Australia and I can't find the Martha Stewart folders. If any Australia. Readers know where I could get something similar I would love to know. If you sell them all bound and ready to go I would be first in line next year to buy one. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you can purchase everything online through Staples.com and Jen's Etsy shop?
DeleteI'm guessing you can buy everything online through staples and Jen's Etsy shop? Don't know what shipping would cost though?

DeleteHi Jen, as usual you have outdone yourself. Looks fabulous.. would it be easier for you to have an FAQ's at the end of each post so you don't have to answer the same questions over and over :) I know it's sweet of you to answer but I am sure you busy as and I know if I would love to see it all written in one spot at the end of the post. Thanks for sharing your loveliness xx
ReplyDeletei love this blog! always inspire me and i start creating something myself. i would love if u sop by my blog. xxx
ReplyDeletehttp://babyemilycloset.blogspot.co.uk/
This is So awesome! Well done and thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love all the bright colors you use and the planner is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have my order in! My hubby resisted because he thought I was crazy for spending the money...thought I could do something similar. I said maybe I could but it would be this CUTE - and CUTE is SO important! Told him he can spend his time trying to make one for next year, but it better be CUTE - I doubt that happens!
ReplyDeleteThis is EXACTLY what I needed to go with the House and Daycare Binders! I looked into the disk system (so cute) but opted to stick with regular binders because I need some folders and other bulky items added.
Question to anyone who has used the disk system - I think it would be fun to do a smaller purse size planner - wondering how the disks hold up when being thrown into a purse and bag - to they stay put?
GREAT QUESTION! do the discbound binders lose papers or become disheveled when really USED?
DeleteAwesome!!! Did you print the pages on card stock or regular paper?
ReplyDeleteHi! I love this planner! I have a question about the puncher... is the M by Staples Arc System Desktop Punch compatible with the Martha Stewart binder?? It's the only punch I could find and it doesn't say if it is... thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI still like to write everything down, too. I'd be lost without my little notebook!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. I hope to order it! D you have a link for the hole punch you mentioned in the comments? I am having a hard time finding it online. Thanks for taking the time to reply to all the comments, you are so helpful!
ReplyDeletetry this

Wow, this is great! I'm terribly picky with my planners, but I think I could actually stick with something as pretty as this--My Erin Condren life planner might have some competition!
ReplyDeletedottedandlime.wordpress.com
What hole punch do you use on your paper for the discbound notebook? Do you have a link for one specifically that you use? I really want to make this planner, but I'll need to find a punch to make it fit in the notebook. What would our end cost be if we bought the notebook, the hole punch and the extras that are put into the planner?
ReplyDeleteHi Jen!
ReplyDeleteLong time fan here. I want you to know that it really makes my day to steal away a few minutes at my desk at work to catch up on a new blog post--especially one about planners because I love pens, papers, and organization!!
That said, I have always like the discbound organizers from other expensive paper companies, but was hesitant because of the price. I see Staples now sells the discs, but do they also sell the paper punch? Do you ever have papers fall out?
Thanks so much, and keep up the fantastic inspiration! I think many of us readers would LOVE to have a job like yours that lets us be with our families, love on our kids, and improve our homes WHILE calling it work!
Keep it comin'!
This is going to be my 2013 planner. You mentioned using a heavier paper. What did you use? Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteI love everything that you do. You are such an inspiration! I was just curious about what kind of program you are using to produce your printables. I would love to build off of your ideas to make printables that would work for my family, but I have no clue where to start. Any information you provide would get me one step closer to being the organized person I dream of being. Thanks!
I am pretty picky when it comes to planners and yours looks AMAZING!! I can't wait to purchase it. Thanks for creating this. :)
ReplyDeletethis is AMAZING. So... if we wanted to basically duplicate your binder.. what supplies do we need??
ReplyDeleteWow What a beautiful planner. What inspiration. Maybe one day I will be that organized and pretty. Have a great new year. I love checking your blog and wish you all the best for the new year.
ReplyDeleteReally really nice job. Love that your design style is so consistent and colourful across everything you do :)
ReplyDeleteHello Jen. I love your site and have been a long time follower. I am a organizer/day planner junkie and have often found myself buying a new one in the middle of the year because i think it will work better... Last month I bought 2 of them just in a smaller and bigger size. One for home and one for the purse.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had seen yours first though. For sure next year I want to get yours.
I also color coordinate things in my planner, but I usually just use a highlighter.
I do have a question though about your pens. What kind are they and where did you get them?
Thanks so much for the amazing inspiration all the time.
~Nicole M.
I tend to go through several planners per year as I can never find one that has everything I need. Just ordered yours & it looks amazing! I'm so excited to have my meal planning & weekly calendar in the same place!
ReplyDeleteJenn--I recently purchased a $55 planner from a certain high-end on-line retailer. Love it; Love yours more! Please consider selling them assembled. I like to think I'm together, but I know I would never get around to printing and assembling it on my own. Thanks for all your awesome-ness! As a mom of 3 boys, I take all the help and inspiration I can get. :)
ReplyDelete~Kelly
Hi :)
ReplyDeleteI was just about to purchase an Eric C. planner but like this instead so I can reprint if I mess up and incorporate the meals. It will also go GREAT with the home binder I purchased from you :)
My one question: Where did you find the punch. You said you invested in it since you will be using it. I am interested in the cost but I can't find it on Staples.com.
Thank YOU in advance! Alison
Love it, and I also appreciate you answering everyone's questions! Off to place orders on etsy and staples.com right now...
ReplyDeletePerfect timing! I bought Erin Condren's planner last year, and really liked it, but did not use it as much as I should have. This year I was going to buy it again but was having a hard time biting the $50 bullet. I even spent quite a bit of time searching etsy for a replacement, binded or printable and haven't found anything. I already have the household binder, so I was so happy to open my email this morning and find this sitting there! Just ordered mine this morning! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteSorry if I repeat this question. I couldn't find it above!
ReplyDeleteHow did you hole punch the pages to fit in the Staples binder?
I *LOVE* this idea!!
LOVE IT! I was going to purchase an Erin C. but I think I like this better :) I love that it incorporates meal planning and will go great with my Home Binder.
ReplyDeleteMy one question is:
What did you purchase for the punches. You said you invested in the system since you would be using it a lot. I can't find it/don't really know what I was looking for.
Thank YOU in advance for your help!
Alison
Absolutely love how cute this is! I'll have to remember for next year (hopefully you do another one!) since I already have one for 2013 :(
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you included the meal plan right on the days. And the color! (I've been following you for a fairly long time, and all that color.....time consuming!) I'm considering a silhouette to incorporate some new systems....but for now I think this GORGEUS layout in a regular binder will be just fine. (I don't have any of the doodads you've mentioned. And won't have time to shop for a bit....although thank you for the reason to go to Staples again. ;) )
ReplyDeleteQuestion: when you say more professional paper-do you get yours someplace like Staples? I generally just grab some at Target (we homeschool-go thru A LOT of paper....) but they seem to only have regular lightweight paper and card stock. I can't imagine this is what you mean.
Thank you Jen.
This is the best calendar ever! I was standing hours in that calendar shop and then bought - frustrated of course - the same as last year. I would love to have something like this! Unfortunately I don't know if I can buy something like you have here in Germany. And I don't own a label maker or laminate machine. Well...
ReplyDeleteI love this! You have now inspired me to make a trip to Staples and attempt to be as organized for 2013 as you are :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.RissHomeDesign.com
Girrrrl..I love this. I see your buiness card peaking out of the pocket! Where did you get those made? Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteJust ordered this! Can't wait to receive the printables! I've been trying to put together a planner using Martha Stewart's supplies, but it's really not in the format I need. Yours is! I will probably use the Martha Stewart system for a household binder. Thanks for all your hard work!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the paper that your list of labels with your familys names is is on.
ReplyDeleteLovely! So pretty and useful - good job! Wish I had come up with something like this...
ReplyDeleteI especially like the special dates page. I think one like it just for birthdays would be really helpful for me (I tend to be pretty forgetful when it comes to birthdays...)
My husband REALLY wants a label maker. I love how yours look on this very awesome planner! The two of us do best when our calendars are digitally synced, BUT I need to have a daily list to be most productive. This is a great resource ~ thanks!
ReplyDeleteI so so so sad I just saw this for 2013! I just ordered my EC life planner. Not to say I don't like it, but I LOVE the freedom this gives you! I may even purchase one just because I like it so much more:)
ReplyDeleteQuestion: 1- what size do you print your pages & 2- is the hole puncher sold at staples for this system too?
Thanks :)
I love this calendar/system, but went to Staples and they don't have a punch and the worker wasn't familiar with one for the Martha Stewart discbound planner system? Did you purchase a punch or how do your pages fit in the binder?
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! I bought my EC planner in December. My 2014 planner will definitely be yours!!! $25 is an amazing price!!
ReplyDeleteAnother really nice aspect to printing the pages instead of buying a pre-assembled book is that you don't have to carry the ENTIRE year at the same time. Since I like to keep my planner with me, I could print out all the months and only the weekly pages for the current season. This will save space, weight, and let me enjoy it all over again every few months! This is a nice way to still maintain freedom of creativity.
ReplyDeleteAs always, well done!
What an awesome idea! I am "a little" OCD and hate when my planners get really messy. I love that if I have a month that gets out of control, I can reprint that one page and "fix" it!
DeleteOh my gosh I so wish I'd seen this weeks ago! I bought my planner but this is WAS more fabulous and JUST what I was looking for! Please do one for 2013!!! I am "THIS CLOSE" to returning the one I have and printing this one!!!
ReplyDeleteJen you did it again. Awesome work. I think I'm going to look into this planner set up. I love the Discbound system. So super smart. I need to get organized better this year and this just might be the system for me.
ReplyDeleteHow long did it take to create these pages on the computer ?
ReplyDelete
