I left you earlier this week with a view of our newly updated closet space in what once was our guest room and is now our master room!
We installed our closet storage system on the right side....
However, we were still left with a blank slate for the left side...
Until today... when I was happily surprised by the work my handy hub and is papa did last night!
Yes my blog friends, that is a desk! We are no longer residing in our lower level {for what we are thinking could be up to 6 months to a year}, so we had to make a super quick office out of our new bedroom space {since our previous work spot was in the lower level of our home}.
How did my handy guys make this quick little project happen? They just installed a wooden ledge around the perimeter of the closet, and set a piece of painted MDF on top!
It took less than an hour, only because they also beveled out a spot for our chair to slide in and tuck away.
And because the rest of this makeover has to cost me next to nothing, I took what once was a black Ikea floating shelf that resided in our guest room
and gave it a coat of primer and paint to take it from black to white!
Which was also installed!
Giving me the most perfect blank slate to start shopping for things around the house and start accessorizing and setting up shop!! My favorite part!
We definitely have some tricks up our sleeves on how to get this space up and running and completely functional for handling what equates to a couple of hours of work per day, so as I always say, "Stay Tuned" for more!

You are doing an excellent job getting things functional and PRETTY. I might still be crying.
ReplyDeleteLooks so nice Jen. I'm so sorry about all the water damage. You have such a positive attitude and I'm sure you'll turn your house into an even better more organized space when this is all done.
ReplyDeleteLove the clear chair. Way to make lemonade out of lemons!
ReplyDeleteTotally diggin' it, Jen, very chic, sleek and the colors are great.
ReplyDeleteJen, I really admire your attitude. I'm sure behind the blog's "eyes" and "ears" you are cursing under your breath. You are showing a positive front which is difficult with the flood and ruined stuff. You are an inspiration to all of us!!
ReplyDeleteI love that clear chair, where did you find it? Great job on all your makeovers, I just love your attention to detail!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the cream lamp from? I heart it!
ReplyDeleteHi mommyarchives!
ReplyDeleteThe chair is from Ikea, I just adore it and could sit in it ALL day it is so comfortable! {http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20115038}
Palmer Family, the cream lamp was a Pottery Barn splurge {http://www.potterybarn.com/products/alexis-ceramic-table-lamp-base/?pkey=x|4|1||10|porcelain%20blue||0&cm_src=SCH}

Ok... I am wanting to do this, but I have one quick question - do you have a hard time getting stuff in and out of the shelf on the right closet? I'm planning on redoing our itty bitty bedroom closet... I like the idea of the shelf to the left and then a rod on top and bottom, but if it is difficult to get stuff in and out of the shelves my husband will not be a happy camper ;)

What is MDF? I have a alcove in my wall next to my closet and I want to add a desk to it, like u did in the closet.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pressed board that you can find in different sizes and depths from your home improvement store. It has a nice smooth finish so it is easily painted and not extremely expensive.
